Why the walls have ears. Have you ever walked into someones home and found that certain items or pieces literally spoke to you? Maybe it was an enamel-top farm table that served up the family breakfast for several generations, or a blanket chest with its weathered patina. Better yet, a latch salvaged from a wrought-iron gate that was transformed into a centerpiece or garden ornament. I have just the place for that! Consequently, the concept for a small business grew out of this premise, and Viejo Sol (Spanish for old sun and pronounced vee-ay-ho sole), was birthed -- for the most part, specializing in the wholesale delivery of original vintage items typically found in a seaside cottage, farmhouse, or country garden. Examples of such timeless pieces can be found throughout the Viejo Sol website under the categories Vintage Furniture, Vintage Labels, and Vintage Veggies. It was in the cards. Building on nearly twenty years in the marketing research industry, and valuable feedback received from his clients, Dave Davis, the creator/owner of Viejo Sol, has designed multiple lines of greeting cards that encompass several unique categories. Selections range from Daves original photography, featuring vintage furniture vignettes (The Shadow Collection©) and landscape shots (The East End Collection© and The Croton Dam Collection©), to carefully selected reproductions of original artwork (The Artist Collection), and a full complement of holiday reprints from the early 1900s (The Holiday Collection). A more thorough description of each line, in addition to information regarding the purchase of original artwork, can be found under the category Greeting Cards. Creative minds dont all think alike. In addition to samples of his own written word (which can be found under the category Daves Desk at Ditch), some of the special folks whove had a profound influence in Daves life-journey, find themselves honored under the category Season of the Sol. The bigger picture. How often, in our busy lives, have we wished for more time to help others less fortunate than ourselves? For Dave Davis, the answer to that question has not only been often, but has led to the creation of a business model with a distinct purpose. Without the structure, time constraints, and bureaucracy of a conventional bricks-and-mortar entity, Viejo Sol is attempting to blaze new trails by seeking balance between business, creativity, and humanitarianism. By incorporating designated periods of time, taking a direct, personally-involved approach to assisting charitable/humanitarian organizations with their immediate needs, a bond between business and community is nurtured and has the ability to thrive. As a collective group of individuals and small businesses, the potential for making a difference can be truly unlimited. Thanks for taking the time to visit Viejo Sol! |
